Until recently, the highest grossing anime movie at the Japanese box office was the K-ON! movie. This was recently surpassed the 3rd Madoka movie, “Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Rebellion”. But just how well has it really done?
Well, since its premiere on October 26th until December 31st, 2013 the movie had raked in ¥2 billion! It also managed to break through the ¥1 billion mark in only 13 days which in itself is a remarkable feat. Due to the demand for the movie, it will now begin screening on an additional 46 screens which rounds out the total screens to 59 starting from January 11.
Lucky moviegoers on that day will be receiving a small bonus in the form of a clear file with artwork designed by Ume Aoki, the original art designer.
