That most awesome part of the week has rolled around again…Gaming Life in Japan! This is out little segment where we take a peek into software and hardware sales from all the way over in Japan, so let’s jump straight in.
On the software front, Monster Hunter 4 on the 3DS is still holding onto the top spot despite some tough competition. It’s been up there for nearly one month and it shows just how much the series is loved in Japan. Even the release of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD hasn’t dissuaded gamers from letting go of their monster hunting hobby. Meanwhile the PS Vita has not one but two games in the top 10. Those games are The Legend Of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki and Warriors Orochi 3: Ultimate. Could a change for the Vita be on the cards or is this just a temporary phase? Only time will tell when we check back in next week.
Shifting to hardware, we can see that the Nintendo 3DS is still the king for gaming with over 122k units sold. Between sales of MH4 and the 3DS, it doesn’t look like slowing down anytime soon for Nintendo. The same can’t be said for the Wii U which only sold just over 4k units, that has to hurt. I honestly believed that when Wind Waker HD was released, we would have seen a surge in sales for the Wii U but it looks like it might be a case of too little too late? I’d love to see the Wii U succeed in Japan but it isn’t looking too good at the moment.
